Cinnamon Roll Protein Bites
These cinnamon roll protein bites have become one of my new favorite recipes when I’m craving a sweet treat that still has some nutritional benefits, too! Each of these bites has over 9 grams of protein to help support muscle mass and keep you fuller for longer. They are also super soft and delicious, with a sweet doughy cinnamon base which is topped with a high protein cream cheese frosting. The best part is that you don’t have to spend hours making them like regular cinnamon rolls. These protein bites only take about 20 minutes to make!

The base of these bites is cashew butter, which gives them a rich, creamy texture and healthy fats that help keep you satisfied. Maple syrup adds sweetness, while vanilla and cinnamon add warm spice. You’ll use some protein powder for the dough and a little almond flour to help thicken everything up. Finally, you’ll roll them up, slice, and top with a delicious cream cheese protein frosting.
These protein bites are perfect for meal prep, afternoon snack cravings, or when you want something sweet after dinner. They’re also great for keeping in the fridge when you want a grab and go option that feels like dessert. They contain a combination of protein, healthy fats, and carbs, which makes these more satisfying than a typical sugary snack. Pairing protein with fats and carbs helps slow digestion and keeps blood sugar more stable. If you want even lower added sugar, you can sub the maple syrup for a sugar-free liquid sweetener.

An important note: for this recipe, you will need to use a plant based protein powder. Unfortunately, subbing an animal based protein won’t work here. Whey or collagen protein dissolve in liquids, so rather than thickening the batter, they would leave you with a sticky mess! Any plant based protein should work, but recently I have been liking the Orgain or Truvani brands.

Protein Bites
- 1/2 cup cashew butter (can sub almond butter)
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
- 2/3 cup vanilla plant-based protein powder (do not sub whey)
- 1/4 cup almond flour
- 2 tsp cinnamon
Cream Cheese Frosting
- 2 tbsp greek yogurt (plain or vanilla)
- 2 tbsp cream cheese
- 1 1/2 tsp maple syrup
Instructions
- In a large bowl, add cashew butter, maple syrup, vanilla extract and salt and stir until combined.
- Add protein powder and mix again until fully incorporated.
- Add almond flour and mix again. The dough will be very thick. It may be easier to mix with your hands at this point.
- Form the dough into a ball. Roll out with a rolling pin to a large rectangle shape about 1/4" thick. Cover the entire rectangle with a generous dusting of cinnamon.
- Roll the dough from the long end into a log. Slice into 10 equal pieces and place them on a plate or in a large tupperware container.
- To make the frosting, whisk together greek yogurt, cream cheese, and maple syrup until smooth. Add to a sandwich bag, cut a small hole in one corner, and pipe onto the protein bites. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
