Salted Dark Chocolate Covered Mandarins

I’ve been seeing these chocolate covered oranges floating around recently on social media and they looked incredible. And I regret to inform you that they taste even better than they look!! These salted dark chocolate covered mandarins are the perfect solution for when you have a sweet tooth, but want something a little bit healthier.

Salted Dark Chocolate Covered Mandarins

We all know the combination of chocolate and orange are perfect together. But what really impresses me about these little guys is the texture. You get a bite of soft, juicy mandarin along with the crunchy dark chocolate. Truly heaven. You won’t regret making these.

I got the inspiration for this recipe from creator Ella Henry (@glowwithella). She made them with a variety of different citrus types and it looked incredible. I’m lucky enough to have a mandarin tree in my yard so making these was a no-brainer. I just adapted the recipe to scale for four mandarins. Also, genuinely recommend you follow her for great seasonal recipes too!

Ingredients

  • 4 mandarins
  • 1/3 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 tbsp coconut oil
  • flaky salt (for topping)

Instructions

  • Peel mandarins, separate slices, and spread evenly across a small baking sheet or large plate lined with parchment paper.
  • Place mandarins in the freezer. Meanwhile, microwave chocolate chips and coconut oil together in a small bowl for about 60 seconds or until the chocolate is fully melted when you stir it together.
  • Remove mandarins from freezer and dip into the melted chocolate to cover about half the mandarin slice. Sprinkle with flaky salt while the chocolate is still melted so that it sticks. The chocolate will harden quickly because the mandarin slices are cold.
  • Once all slices are coated, place in the freezer for about 5 min to fully firm up the chocolate if eating right away. Otherwise, store the mandarins in the fridge until they are ready to eat.

Notes

Store these in an air-tight container in the fridge, not the freezer so that the mandarins still stay soft and juicy.
