Sesame Beef and Broccoli Bowls

Sesame Beef and Broccoli Bowls

If you’re craving beef and broccoli but want something a little more balanced, these sesame beef and broccoli bowls are one of my go-to meals. You still get all the savory, slightly sweet flavors you love, but with a high fiber, high protein version that actually keeps you full. Each serving packs nearly 40 grams of protein and 12 grams of fiber, making this a satisfying and nutrient-dense meal.

This bowl starts with lean shaved beef cooked with garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and a touch of honey. The meat gets finished with toasted sesame seeds and a drizzle of sesame oil for extra flavor. It’s paired with plenty of broccoli and edamame, which not only bulk up the meal but also add fiber, vitamins, and plant-based protein.

I love serving this meal over rice, and if you’re short on time, using pre-cooked rice makes this recipe come together in closer to 20 minutes! Otherwise, it’s about a 40 minute start-to-finish meal, which is still pretty doable for a weeknight.

This meal is also great for meal prep. You can portion everything into containers and have balanced, high protein lunches or dinners ready to go for the week. It reheats really well and the flavors get even better as it sits. If you’re looking for a simple, flavorful, and balanced dinner, this one is definitely worth adding to your rotation. I hope you enjoy these sesame beef and broccoli bowls!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup uncooked rice (or 2 cups pre-cooked rice)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb shaved lean beef steak
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce, divided
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 1/2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 cups edamame beans (pre-cooked)

Instructions

  • Cook rice using desired method (if using pre-cooked rice, skip this step).
  • Heat a large pan over medium heat and add olive oil. Add shaved beef into the pan, using a fork to separate the pieces.
  • Add garlic, ginger, 2 tbsp of soy sauce, and honey to the beef and mix to combine. Cook for about 5-7 minutes while stirring, until beef is no longer pink. Once beef is fully cooked, add toasted sesame seeds and sesame oil, stir, and remove from heat.
  • Meanwhile, heat another large pan over medium heat. Add broccoli and about 1/3 cup water and cover. Steam for about 4 minutes until tender. Remove the lid, add remaining 1 tbsp soy sauce and mix to combine. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, then remove from heat.
  • Heat edamame beans in the microwave or stovetop.
  • Once the rice is fully cooked, assemble your bowls by adding rice, edamame, beef, and broccoli to the bowl. Feel free to top with additional toasted sesame seeds if desired.
